A Whale of a time
Our second day in christchurch we wandered around the city for the whole day. We went to the main cathedral in the centre and from there it was on a long walk. We hit all the main parts from the pieces that were hit bad by the earthquake in september and onto the arts centre and the canterbury museum, which was free. From there we went to the botanic gardens which we strolled around for a bit. Apparently there was a big quake while we were walking around the city, it was like 3.1 or something but neither if us felt it somehow. So from Christchurch it was off to Kaikoura further north on the west coast. We caught our bus early Friday morning and the bus was short and sweet and were in the town only about 3 hours later. Straight away we sent off on a 6 hour walk around the peninsula and back to the town. It was a really nice walk and we got to see several seal colonies along te way as well as crazy ass birds everywhere. We also booked our whale watching tour fir Saturday morning. So we set off at 10.30am and hit the high seas in search of the sperm whale. We manged to see one within only about 40mins of being out there and it's an awesome creature. It's so so big and looks amazing. We were fairly lucky too cuz we got to see a second one not so long after which was much cooler. For the rest if the day we just relaxed in the hostel and chatted to everybody around who were all real nice people. So then this morning we left Kaikoura and arrived in Nelson. Our jumping spot to the Abel Tasman national park.
